Three Decades of Continuity – Ceremonial Academy Held on the Occasion of the 30th Jubilee International Conference on Information Technologies

The jubilee 30th International Conference INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES 2026 will be held from 24 to 28 February 2026 in Podgorica and Žabljak. A ceremonial academy marking the anniversary was held in Podgorica on 24 February, while the working part of the conference will continue from 25 to 28 February in Žabljak.

Three decades of continuity in a world of rapid technological change—such a milestone was marked at the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro in Podgorica on 24 February, with a Ceremonial Academy celebrating 30 years of the International Conference on Information Technologies.

The conference is a scientific and technological event that was first held in Žabljak three decades ago and has since grown into one of the most significant scientific gatherings in the field of information and communication technologies in the region. Each year, the conference brings together between 100 and 150 participants, professors, associates, students, and representatives of the business community from more than 20 countries, confirming its outstanding importance for the academic and IT community. Over these 30 years, it has become a recognizable platform for knowledge exchange, linking academia and industry, and fostering innovation. A special confirmation of its quality is the fact that conference papers are published in the IEEE Xplore database, ensuring international visibility and compliance with the highest scientific standards. The growing number of international papers shows that the conference is expanding beyond regional boundaries and becoming part of the wider European and global scientific scene.

At the Ceremonial Academy, which brought together more than 150 members of the scientific, research, academic, and business communities, it was emphasized that initiatives like this demonstrate the crucial role of the connection between science, industry, and institutions in strengthening competitiveness and accelerating digital transformation.

The Ceremonial Academy was opened by the President of the Conference Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Božo Krstajić of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro. Prof. Krstajić thanked the Conference Organizing Committee and all participants who have continuously provided support, and noted that the conference represents a blend of the metaphysical spirit of Durmitor and the constant changes in IT—changes that the participants have transformed into lasting values. Prof. Dr. Novak Jauković, one of the founders of the Conference, noted that it embodies nurturing regional potential and a vision of continuously elevating and preserving knowledge.

The Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, said that despite dynamic changes in the technology sector, the Conference has built continuity as the most reliable indicator of quality, emphasizing the special responsibility of the academic community in preserving and developing a knowledge-based society.

The President of the Board of the University of Montenegro, Milivoje Radović, highlighted that three decades of the conference’s existence confirm its success, quality, importance, and continuity.

The Vice-Rector of the University of Donja Gorica, Prof. Dr. Milica Vukotić, emphasized that conferences endure not because of programs, but because of people who believe in the continuity of knowledge. She noted that multiple generations of students have passed through this conference and today shape the region’s IT sector, and that this jubilee celebrates a culture of cooperation and trust as a key development resource.

At the Ceremonial Academy, certificates of appreciation were awarded on the occasion of the jubilee to the founders of the conference—Prof. Dr. Srđan Stanković, Prof. Dr. Novak Jauković, Prof. Dr. Milovan Radulović, and Mr. Dragan Perović—as well as to institutions that continuously support the organization: the University of Montenegro, the University of Donja Gorica, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (University of Montenegro), the Faculty of Organizational Sciences (University of Belgrade), the IEEE Serbia and Montenegro Section, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, and the company ČIKOM d.o.o. IT Engineering.

After the ceremonial part and the presentation of awards, a panel discussion titled “Information Technologies – Past, Present and Future” was held, where participants spoke about the development of the conference, the development of the IT sector, the evolution and understanding of artificial intelligence, and the importance of regional and international cooperation. The panelists were Prof. Dr. Novak Jauković, Prof. Dr. Srđan Stanković, Prof. Dr. Milica Pejanović Đurišić, and Mr. Milutin Pavićević. The panel was moderated by Vladan Tabaš, a member of the Conference Organizing Committee.

This year’s program, which continues in Žabljak, includes—alongside numerous research projects—trainings, workshops, and success stories in the field of High Performance Computing (HPC), organized within the EuroCC4SEE project under the Digital Europe Programme, as well as the MontEDIH project. These are examples of successful cooperation between research institutions and the business community in Montenegro, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation of Montenegro.

Marking 30 years of the conference once again confirmed that science and innovation know no borders, and that joint projects and partnerships strengthen the capacities of the entire region and contribute to the development of a knowledge-based society.

The conference is organized by: the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro; the Faculty for Information Systems and Technologies (UDG); the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade; the IT Society of Montenegro; the IEEE Serbia and Montenegro Section; Čikom d.o.o.; and the Five Group—once again confirming strong institutional and regional cooperation.
